A daughter and granddaughter of German industrialists from Łódź is the film’s main protagonist. Even though Maryla Biedermann spoke German in her family home, her parents decided that she would attend Polish schools. After graduating from her studies in Switzerland, she spent her last holiday before September, 1939, in the Military Training Camp for Women. She later joined the Union of Armed Struggle and the Home Army.
